ONE IS REPRESENTED by Peter, his name means stone. In this case he characterises the law (the law was written on stone). Peter represents the kind of Christians who are under the law, who boast of their love for the Lord, “If all these shall betray you, I will never… I’ll give my life for You, Lord”. Peter either feels he’s not good enough, or tries hard to outdo all others to try and win Christ’s approval.
JOHN, LEANING ON Jesus’ bosom, is a picture of depending on the Lord’s love for him. He typifies every believer who depends or boasts of the Lord’s love for them.
BEFORE THE NIGHT was over, the one who boasts of his love for the Lord, was found denying Him 3 times.
Peter boasts of his love for the lord. John, leaning on Jesus’ bosom boasts of the Lord’s love for him. One typifies the law, the other grace.
THE ONE WHO boasts of the Lord’s love for him was, of spiritual employment, at the foot of the cross. Of all the disciples, he was there, able to minister comfort to the Saviour in his dying moment. Jesus says to him, “Take care of my mother”. John was there.
WHEN YOU BOAST of the Lord’s love for you, you will always be used by Him, mightily. When you boast of your love for the Lord, it’s doomed to fail.
FRIENDS MAY YOU experience and exercise
His love for you.
